Just a quick note to all Portmarnock AFC teams, managers and club members. Portmarnock beach is a great ammenity to be able to use for training sessions, especially during the summer months, however training on the dunes part of the beach is prohibited by Fingal County Council.
Beach runs, drill or games on the beach are all good exercise and perfectly acceptable but please note that no running or training drills should take part on the dunes.
The dunes on the beach are very vulnerable to wear and are badly damaged at numerous points on the beach. While it is impossible to prevent wear by casual visitors to the beach during the busy summer months as most of them would not be aware of the damage they are causing we would hope that our members of Portmarnock AFC would be sensitive to the fact. The Portmarnock Community Association put in a large efforts in maintaining the dunes which includes replanting of grass in areas of high wear.
Training by sports groups is specifically prohibited on the dunes at Portmarnock under section 3(k) of the Beach and Foreshore Bye Laws of Fingal County Council 2006.
Appreciate your understanding and support with adhering to this as the dunes and Portmarnock beach is an important part of our community.
