DDSL Portmarnock U13A vs Collinstown FC in 1st Round of Gerry Murphy Cup
With the beast from the east blowing a chilling breeze across Paddys Hill, Porto U13A served up a match and a performance to warm the heart.
We started like we meant business, with our centre mids of Ian Moran and Joey Kinnane getting on the ball and setting our stall out early with lovely simple pass and move football, playing the ball in the direction they were facing and holding possession. Big thanks here to Archie Duncan and Max Stanley for always making themselves available to receive the pass and keeping a calm head and playing the ball back on the ground to the free man.
Soon the chances arrived. Dylan Beed got on the end of a through ball from Ian Moran and was unlucky to see his effort saved. Out right Colin Buckley and Jack LaComber had a battle on their hands , but they were up for it and the opposition have the bruises to show for it. But the opposition got a goal from a nothing ball down our right, not dealt with, and the opposition jumped onto the second phase ball to strike a wonder goal.
Porto knew this was not deserved and just kept playing how we had started, but with even more focus speed and commitment. A move started by a quick well struck kick out by Mattie Gleeson in goal to Max, an interlink with Archie a feed through midfield and a through ball to Dylan Beed that was slotted into the net.
As the half wore on Liam Lyons and Jonny May started to come more and more into the frame. Liam was unlucky with a well struck shot , while Jonny put in a number of fine crosses into the zone. We were all breathless at half time and that was only the coaches!
So much happened in the second half , I can only mention the highlights, Nathan Cooke's flying fisted save then goal and Max’s defense pull back from a corner, a chop down on Dylan , a chop down on Ian G, Joey's free kicks, Archies great positional play, James Reen driving forward play, Sean Killeen, chasing down everything.
The final action of the half was a Porto free kick on the right, hit sweetly by Max’s left foot, deflecting off their defender and hitting the foot of the post before deflecting out.
We gave our all in added time and you felt there was one team trying to win Porto and one trying to hold on. But with the score at 1-1 at full time, the game went to penos, so it was in the lap of the gods.
Unfortunately for Porto, the gods favoured the visitors and we were out of the Cup on penos, as the game finished in a 5-4 loss for Portmarnocks U13as.
We can walk with our heads held high as this performance built on last weeks. Porto played some beautiful football creating plenty of chances. God love the team we play when we convert even half of these chances.
Man of the match (shared) Archie Duncan and Max Stanley
