Brian Gregan Memorial Game
The Brian Gregan memorial game took place last Saturday between a Portmarnock selection and a Malahide section. Both teams consisted of current and past players all connected by their friendship with Brian. The teams were led out on to the pitch by Brian's daughters Kate and Anna.
Game started brightly. Portmarnock had a large squad as did Malahide.
Cormac Herlihy opened the scoring for Porto and at half time the game was 1-0
The second half was a masterclass of veteran skills and Malahide equalised through Paul Smith
Porto upped their game and went ahead through Brian Kane the first team keeper playing as a centre forward, who deftly shot past Gary Grant in the Malahide goal. Kane then scored a superb chip to make it 3-1. Further goals came from Bren Dawson and Simo Cash.
Malahide got one back though a well taken penalty from Greg Morris.
Man of the match, Kane unleashed a super shot which hit the net for his hatrick but hilariously the referee had blown for full time much to the amusement of the large number of supporters who braved the wet conditions.
The game was played in great spirit and was a great occasion all-round.
Many thanks to John Doyle, Warren Beasley and David Kelly the officials who referreed the game in a superb manner and added to the occasion.
All in all it was a great day.
