An injury depleted Portmarnock U16B team travelled to East-Meath on Sunday morning with Goalkeeper Ryan Finnegan among those missing.
Alex Cush started in goal and watched as Matthew Campbell gave the visitors an early lead following a corner with a close range header.
This lead doubled midway through the half when a superb free kick from Billy Irwin was dispatched with a bullet headed by Sean Lambert, giving the home keeper no chance. His away counterpart could do little however when a ball over the top was latched onto by a home team forward who finished well into the bottom corner.
2-1 at half time to the visitors and with Sean Lambert taking over in goal the lead could have been stretched on a few occasions before a well-struck free kick from Jamie O'Hanlon gave the keeper no chance, leaving Portmarnock looking likely to run out easy winners,
A lapse in concentration however led to a second home team goal but an equalizer never looked likely, indeed an extension of the away team lead came close on few occasions.
Back on on track and looking forward to the rest of the first half of the season, especially when some of the injured return in the next week or so.
Final Score: Portmarnock A.F.C 3- 2 East Meath United.
