U9 Sunday Red in Home Farm Mini World Cup
PORTMARNOCK AFC U9 SUNDAY RED OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE IN THE HOME FARM MINI WORLD CUP.
Our U9 Sunday Red team played in a mini world cup tournament in Home Farm on the Bank Holiday Monday. Whitehall was drenched in sunshine and our boys did the club proud on reaching the semi finals of a tough competition.
Drawn in a group of St Mochtas, Drumcondra, Cherry Orchard and ourselves, we amassed four points to finish level second with Cherry Orchard on the same points and goal difference. A penalty shootout was needed to see who progressed to the world cup knockout stage. Two fine saves from Ronan McNally and excellent finishing from Niall Keating and Cillian McCauley saw us progress to the Quarter Finals where we met another Cherry Orchard team. Running out 1-0 winners on the Home Farm main pitch, with a goal of the season candidate from Niall Keating pile driving the winner late in the second half.
On to Belvedere Boys in the semi-finals, unfortunately our lads ran out of steam and left the competition with heads held high losing 4-1. A great conciliation goal from Ronan McNally at the end marked a fantastic performance for Ronan who also starred in goal in the peno shootout.
Excellent defending from Alfie Thompson, Danial O'Brien coupled with selfless running from Eoghan Madden and Ethan Moran in midfield, we also saw Leon Fitzgerald and Cillian McCauley chip in with goals during the group phase.
A special thanks to the parents of the boys for spending the day supporting the team and also to Home Farm who were excellent hosts on the day.
