Sunday 13th May
Following their Cup exit last time out Portmarnock returned to league action at home to Balbriggan on a sunny Sunday morning in Paddyshill.
Jamie O’Hanlon opened the scoring practically from the kick off following a quick attack down the right hand side resulting in a smart cross from Matthew Campbell and a tidy finish at the far post.
Balbriggan however were not going to lie down and equalized soon after following some hesitancy in the home defence.
Sean Lambert restored the lead latching on to an accurate through ball and smashing the ball past the away keeper.
The visitors rallied again and two quick goals gave them a half time lead.
The second half began with the home team on top and pressing to equalize and some good pressure led to a good save from the Balbriggan keeper.
From the resulting corner Matthew Carrick gave him no chance and from there the home team looked to be the only winners.
Two smart close range finishes from Alex Cush and two further well taken goals from Jamie O’Hanlon made it 7-3 at the finish, a scoreline that was a little harsh on the visitors in what was a great game of end to end football
