Our first game of our under 16 teams for the season was a friendly away to killbarrack. We had a mix of old and new players in the team with 10 players out for various reasons. We came up against a team a few divisions ahead of us, a good footballing team. They took the game to us but the lads were well organised and defended superbly. They basically worked the socks off and man of the match Neil had a fantastic game and only for him we could have been in trouble early on. We took the lead after 25 minutes after we came into the game and played some nice football and Harry Byrne headed in at the far post from a well taken corner. The half time came and we had our noses in front. Just asked the lads to do the same again and they duly obliged.
The second half repeated itself but we created a few more chances. They got their equalizer . We almost got a second with Ross striking a nice shot to narrowly miss the target. They went down the far end and got a winner. Unlucky not to get the draw but the result means nothing. It's all about te performance and the lads left nothing out there. Extremely mature and hard working performance by the team. I don't think anyone was disappointed .
If they can maintain this desire to work it will be an enjoyable season regardless of the results. Well done.
