The Saturday team enjoyed a relatively comfortable afternoon in Carrickhill in a 6-2 win over Inchicore Athletic
Porto controlled the opening 20 minutes and took a deserved lead through a fine finish from Darren Daly. The home team began to take the game to Inchicore, enjoying long periods of sustained pressure but struggled to make their possession count before, against the run of play, the visitors latched on to a ball over the top to equalize.
The Seasiders continued to enjoy most of the possession and made their superiority count when Daly cut in from the right wing to put one in the top corner. Daly then completed his hat trick to send the home side in 3-1 up at half time with another excellent finish after receiving a fine cross field ball from Karl Lynch-Bissett.
In somewhat of a scrappy start to the second half, the home side seemed happy to rely on their defence to soak up any pressure Inchicore threw at them and play on the counterattack, which they duly did. A blistering move ended in Porto getting their 4th through Lynch-Bissett. Adam Moran added a 5th after another excellent counter. Moran then wrapped up the scoring with his 2nd of the afternoon after the visitors pulled one back. Another fine finish from the midfielder who has been putting in some excellent displays in recent weeks.
An injury to goalkeeper Dylan Fitzpatrick was a sour note in an otherwise great afternoon. The Captain was replaced by Ross Waters however, who stepped up to make an important save from a penalty when the score was 5-2.
The management team were very happy with the afternoon. They noted that ‘After a tough start to this campaign, we were in a position that we had to integrate new players to the squad and our system, which is never easy. But the players have been absolutely first class, every session. They are now starting to see the results that their commitment, efforts and training deserve. And, when you score 6 goals at home, you have to be happy’.
Man of the Match was Darren Daly. The winger was unplayable in the first half. The opposition could only watch as he took his hat-trick in clinical fashion. The Seasiders will now look to build on this impressive display as we head into the winter months.
