Covid-19 and Social Distancing: Message from the front line.

We recorded a big drop in telephone calls over the last few days. The social and physical distancing together with the self-isolation seems to be helping. Our hospitals are struggling with an increased number of patients requiring ventilation. The increased restrictions, as Leo said, are to help our hospitals cope. The hospitals will save as many lives as possible but it will only be in the order of hundreds whereas the actions we take in the community can save the lives of thousands. this crisis is going to get worse before it gets better.
Please adhere to the new restrictions. The 2m distancing when you are out on your restricted movements is vital to halt the progression of this virus. You may be young and healthy and not worry about getting the virus yourself, however spare a thought for all those people you may potentially infect including your family and loved ones.
Please be mindful that other illnesses and diseases do not step aside and give centre stage to COVID-19. If you have any concerns about any other health matters that arise during this period you should telephone your own GP who will discuss the matter with you. Unfortunately, heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, new cancers and other illnesses are all out there in the community and you should not ignore any worrying symptoms. Take care of yourself, your loved ones and your community by sticking to the lockdown rules. As Leo said “I’m asking us for a time to forego our personal liberties and freedoms for a greater cause. And I am appealing to every man,woman and child in our country to make the sacrifices, not out of self interest, but for the love of each other”
