Portmarnock picked up the Div 3A Shield after a 7 goal extra time thriller.
Springbank, strong favourites going into the match, took the lead but goals from David Graham and Eanna Dunleavy turned the scores around before halftime. Dunleavy's second, from a penalty 5 minutes into the second half put Portmarnock 3-1 ahead but then Springbanks second goal, from a header, followed by a scrappy third from Stephen Doyle, drew Springbank level and sent the game into extra-time. Brian Crowley proved to be Portmarnock's matchwinner when he netted in the first period of extra time. Springbank pressed for an equaliser, but to no avail, with the Portmarnock keeper equal to a late volley while the resolute defence stood solid until the final whistle. Portmarnock played the better football throughout and proved deserved winners.
A great result to bring home silverware to the club in our first season as a team. Well done lads.
