A top of the table clash against Cherry orchard at paddyshill saw Portmarnock u11b1 walk away with all 3 points in a hard fought game.
Cherry orchard opened the scoring from a corner early in the first half and although keeper Tom McCormack got something on it he couldn't stop the ball crossing the line. Portmarnock hit back soon after great work down the line from Cian Cantwell saw the ball arrive at the feet of Adam Daly and he cooly finished to the bottom corner. Portmarnock were slowly starting to get on top and create chances but couldn't convert their dominance into goals . Good defensive work from Shane Archer and Eoghan Clarke kept the orchard at bay with Jamie Ramage and Daniel Smyth attacking down the flanks meant Portmarnock were always creating chances. It looked like the game would end in a draw until a late onslaught on the cherry orchard goal saw the boys come out on top . First an instinctive finish by the impressive Sayed Afalobi gave Portmarnock the lead soon after David Bowers made the points safe with a cool top corner strike from outside the box. Afalobi finished the match with a great strike after good work from the ever hard working centre mid Harry Sprague . Credit has to go to a well organised cherry orchard team who made it very difficult for our lads but a great result means a win in their last game will guarantee promotion for the fourth year running for this excellent team.
