Match: Marino FC vs Portmarnock AFC
The away team entered Croydon Gardens early this morning with a clear sense of purpose. They
took a deserved early lead after 5 minutes with a strong run by Ian Moran up front past two
defenders with a measured finish past the Marino keeper. An early warning was raised for the
opposition and a clear contender for goal of the season. Energy and movement prevailed with a
second goal for young Ian Moran and Portmarnock were in their stride with a 2-0 lead within 10
minutes.
A wake up call for the home team allowed Marino to settle, with better shape and marking. The
home team took advantage of a mistake in the box by Portmarnock with a deserved goal before the
break.
The challenge was set for the away team to prevent any further mistakes going into the second half.
Portmarnock started the second period well, strong in central Midfield with their Captain Alex
Moore and twin Josh Moore on the left flank who was tenacious in every tackle. Porto were solid at
the back with Archie Duncan, protecting his debutant Goal Keeper Nathan Cooke and allowing
forward runs from fellow defender Jack LaComber, who ran the length and struck with a third goal
for the visiting team. Further opportunities were provided, and on another day young Dylan Cronin
might have got a brace for Porto.
Further scares were threatened by Marino, testing Nathan Cooke in goal for the away side, but to no
avail as the young keeper looked confident and calm in his new role with some outstanding shot
stopping and ball collection in front of the sticks. A slight change in formation allowed young Darach
Keaveney to clinch a well taken goal up front for Porto. Captain Alex Moore also claimed his teams
5th after falling short on 2 occasions earlier in the half.
It could have been more for Porto today...proud to wear the crest this morning and wash those
jerseys later!
Man Of The Match: Archie Duncan.
