Portmarnock (u10 D1) 4-Portrane 3
The U10 D1 Sunday team came into this game on the back of two tidy victories to face a Portrane side arriving full of confidence after winning the away game 5-1 a month earlier.
Despite a strong Portmarnock start it was Portrane who took the lead. The response though was immediate.Cameron Forrester has returned from the Easter break showing a fine run of form. His ball control and ability to beat his man down the left wing could show fellow countryman Aidan McGeady a few handy tips as he forced Portrane on the back foot.Cameron was in the right spot to slot home Matthew Carr’s testing drilled cross (1-1).
Charlie Aston is now excelling as a roving central midfielder and after Andry Collins defence splitting pass, Charlie drew the keeper before calmly slotting the ball into left corner(2-1).
Stephen Hudson imposed himself into this game with solid defensive work but it was his slick passing out of defence which was admired by many and his thunderbolt strike deserved to go in the top right corner.
Noah Kenny’s aggressive running was missed but step forward The ‘Rock’ Rian Kennedy who’s solo run from defence deserved a goal as he left 4 Portrane players standing before his neat strike was cruelly denied by the keepers foot.Jenson Upton was then twice blocked down from the edge of the penalty area.(2-1 up at halftime)
The third Portmarnock goal came from Cameron slotting home with excellent technique from an acute angle on the left.
However within 5 minutes it was 3-3 as Portrane came back into the game. This was now a thrilling tie, tackles were firm, penalty calls denied and the quality of the football was excellent.Andry Collins sweet strike hit the crossbar from 20 metres.Charlie and Matthew showed great vision with defence splitting passes and Tadgh Byrne’s consistency and commitment mirroring Phillipp Lahm at Munich.
Timmy Flavin is a brave keeper and with his shot stopping he will be an asset in goal for Portmarnock for many years to come. Into the last 3 minutes and Porto pressure saw Charlie and Matthew again exchange slick passes in the Portrane box.The next attack led to a corner from which the seasons top scorer Leo Clarke slotted home to make it 4-3 with a sweet strike into bottom right corner.Leo always leaves his mark on the game and his winning strike was followed with a passionate celebration that rivalled Marco Tardelli’s 1982 World Cup winning strike with emotion.
Well done to all.
