Portmarnock U15’s turn on the style
Portmarnock U15’s welcomed Peamount to Paddy’s Hill Saturday afternoon and it was the home side that came out of the traps flying. With only 5 minutes on the clock captain Darragh Curtain scored directly from the corner.
Couple of minutes later Darragh received the ball out right and delivered a cross that was met by Alex Byrne who was unlucky with his header. On 15 minutes Ethan and Darragh linked up well down the right hand side to set up James Dunne, who took the ball down well, but was unlucky to shoot just wide.
At this stage of the game Portmarnock were using possession very well, switching the play when it was on and pressing the opposition as they tried to play out from the back. James Dunne scored his first of the afternoon on 25 minutes with a cool finish from just inside the box.
With both full backs getting forward for Portmarnock at every opportunity, it was left full Andrew Graham who scored the 3rd goal, dispatching his shot and finding the bottom far corner of the Peamount goal.
Just before half time Portmarnock made it 4:0. Ciaran Lyons delivered a teasing ball into the box for James to back heal into an empty net.
Portmarnock started the second half as they finished the first with James and Alex Byrne always a threat going forward and Alex Mc William and Tom O’Sullivan marshalling the defence cutting out any attack from the opposition.
Not long into the second half James was put threw on goal, lifting the ball over the keeper, only to see his effort go just wide of the post.
Second half substitute, Matthew Campbell just back from injury, pushed forward on the right hand side at every opportunity and helped the home side keep the pressure on the visitors throughout the second half.
On the hour mark Ryan Fowley and Jack Irwin linked up well in midfield to feed James who’s curling shot was tipped over the bar by the Peamount keeper. From the resulting corner Billy Irwin delivered a ball onto the head of Joseph Molloy who climbed well to head into the net and complete his hatrick!
Portmarnock weren’t finished here and five minutes later another corner, this time swung in by Ethan, was tapped home by Joseph Malloy.
An all-round strong performance by Portmarnock, who play a lovely brand of football, but the great thing is there is still more to come from this side. Will be keeping a close eye on this team!!!
